Deep in the bowels of URWERK's U-Research Division (the brand’s ‘experimental laboratory') where we keep our mad scientist watchmakers some wild projects emerge. The EMC is one such creation, the start of the new Chronometry Collection.

Launched in August of 2013 the EMC took URWERK in a new direction. Moving away from the satellite complication, in fact, the EMC is the brands first watch to feature regular hands for the time display. Once again though, URWERK doesn't do regular! Another masterpiece design from co-founder Martin Frie the EMC looks like it's lifted straight from a nuclear power station with an edgy, angular shape and details like the crank influenced by old SLR cameras or the balance wheel reminiscent of a vintage 1/4 inch tape reel.

The movement itself is a stepping stone for co-founder and master watchmaker Felix Baumgartner on a quest for higher precision. The EMC is the first 'smart' mechanical wrist watch. Combining an entirely mechanical movement, adhering to the watchmaking past with modern technology in the form of an optical sensor.

The fully interactive, EMC (Electro Mechanical Control) is the world’s first precision mechanical watch in which the timing can be both monitored and adjusted by the user to suit their lifestyle. Wind up the crank to power the miniature capacitor which powers the sensor click the button on the side of the case, and it can measure the accuracy displaying whether your watch is gaining or losing time. Then using URWERK's adjustment screw on the case back you can adjust the time to bring the  EMC back to its most accurate. So no more need to send your watch away for repair if you're having accuracy issues.

In 2014 the EMC was awarded the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève 'Best Innovation and Mechanical Exception in 2014' - the first and only timepiece to win two prizes in one year.

Condition Rating UR-1: As new, no or very few signs of wear, the movement is serviced and in working condition.
