New to the SHOP the UR-100 GunMetal. Our second offering from our Ex-Demonstration collection.
What Is Ex-Demo?
Quite simply it is special pieces that have been worn by the creators of URWERK and the team during the watch expo’s/launch events around the world to present to our collectors, retailers and the international media. Some have even been the watch you see in our adverts or on our website and social channels. Now for the first time like in the car industry, we are making these pieces available to our customers. These are backed by a brand new warranty of two years – extendable to four if registered on our member's lodge. They may carry signs of wear, or as we like to call them battle scars;) but the watches have been tested and are in perfect working order, and come with a brand new strap.
The UR-100 GunMetal
Limited to just 25 pieces, and first launched in January 2020 the GunMetal arrived. From time immemorial, humans have shared the universal habit of looking skywards for guidance. Instinctively we all know that wherever we are in the world, the sun, our celestial clock and point of reference, rules our daily lives.
Thus, we devoted an entire collection of watches to our spinning journey around the sun: SpaceTime.
Using the URWERK calibre 12.01 which required high precision because of extremely tight tolerances between the minute hand and the three different dials and the domed sapphire crystal.
The UR-100 is also the first watch by URWERK to show in full its winding rotor through the sapphire case back. But this is no ordinary rotor! The UR-100’s automatic winding rotor is regulated by a flat turbine, the Windfäng (Swiss German for “air trap”) that minimizes shocks to the rotor bearing and reduces over-winding and wear and tear. The rotor, which is partially supported on its periphery by the flat turbine, also has a larger diameter, resulting in a lower mass and therefore less wear.
URWERK takes its name from the dawn of civilization — the 6,000-year-old city of Ur in ancient Mesopotamia. It was there that the Sumerians divided the daily track of a shadow into 12 parts, creating our basic unit of time. These first crude measures have since evolved into today’s highly sophisticated chronometers, but the principle remains the same: our days are governed by our silent spinning orbit around the sun. We passengers unwittingly travel several billions of kilometres through space every year on our rotating planet at an average speed of 30 kilometres a second.
Distance travelled on Earth
In addition to URWERK’s trademark satellite configuration of the wandering hours and minutes, the UR-100 GunMetal brings your spin through space into sharp focus. When the minute's hand has completed its 60-minute journey, it reappears on a 20-minute scale of 555 kilometers. This is the distance you travel in 20 minutes if you are standing on the equator of our rotating planet. The opposite scale tracks your journey through space around the sun: 35,740km every 20 minutes.
Distance travelled by the Earth around the sun
The opposite scale tracks your journey through space around the sun: 35,740km every 20 minutes.
The UR-100 simultaneously presents three different space-time realities, providing a thought-provoking reminder of our voyage through time and space.
Martin Frei - “We have adopted some of the stylistic features of our first constructions and then deconstructed them. For example, the steel dome of our early models is now in transparent sapphire crystal. The hard outlines of the titanium case highlight its perfection. Because I’m always at odds with the dictates of symmetry, I have used different proportions to catch the eye.”
Felix Baumgartner - “The SpaceTime was an idea inspired by a clock I was given as a gift from my father as a child. It was made by Gustave Sandoz for the Universal Exhibition of 1893. Instead of showing the time, it showed the distance travelled by a point on the equator.”
Now you can enjoy the original UR-100 GunMetal, with a case made from titanium and stainless steel with a GunMetal PVD finish. The markers pop from an ultra-light lume again the matte grey finish. Giving the GunMetal a cool look. The UR-100 line has really captured our URWERK collector's imagination and are one of our most popular watches. They are not often seen on the Pre-Owned market, so take your chance now!
